Barbara Boehm Duran Obituary
Barbara Boehm Duran died in her home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, July 26, 2011. She was 41 years old.
Four years ago, Barbara was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Barbara endured a series of treatments to control the condition, but she understood the nature of this disease. Barbara was determined to enjoy the time she had left, and create a beautiful home and happy memories with her family.
Barbara was the daughter of William and Kathleen Boehm. She was born in St. Louis on May 1, 1970. Her family moved to Alamogordo in 1973.
Barbara played basketball with the Boys & Girls Club league, and Tiger girls team. She was a fierce competitor, and what she lacked in height, she made up for in spirit. She played trombone in the concert and marching bands. Barbara graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1988.
Barbara earned an associate's degree in secretarial administration from New Mexico State University in 1997. She was a certified medical assistant, a certified coding specialist and a certified professional coder. During her career, Barbara was admired for her professional knowledge and integrity. She shared her expertise training co-workers and teaching classes at NMSU-A.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen. She is survived by her father, Bill; her husband, Randy Duran; her daughters Kaci Lobato and Charlize Duran; and her grandson Isaac Torres. Barb was a beloved sister, niece, cousin, aunt and friend. She will be mourned by all of the Boehm, Jacobi, Duran and Farmer families. She was a loving woman, with a bright smile and irreverent sense of humor. Everyone who knew Barb has been inspired by her courage.
A visitation will be held at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel Sunday, July 31, 2011, from 3 to 5 p.m., and the rosary will follow at 5 p.m. Barb's life will be celebrated in a funeral Mass at St. Jude's Parish on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at 10 a.m. with Father Tom Hoffman as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
A reception will follow the graveside services at Alamogordo Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Barbara's memory to the Otero Oncology Patient Assistance Fund, 2559 N. Medical Drive, Suite G, Alamogordo.
The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. Cremation has taken place at PCS.
