Barbara N. Pierce (Perkins) Obituary

Barbara N. Pierce (Perkins), 80, passed away on January 18, 2018 in Alamogordo, New Mexico at Betty Dare Good Samaritan Center surrounded by those who loved her. She was born on November 7, 1937 in Alamogordo, New Mexico to Henry and Ruby (Stone) Melton.

Barbara graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1956 and married her high school love Ray Pierce on June 3, 1956 in Alamogordo at First Baptist Church. She later worked at Mountain Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator during the first part of their marriage, three years later in 1959 their first daughter Tammie was born. The family moved to Abilene, TX in 1962 where her husband was employed at Dyess Air Force Base. The next move would take them to EI Cajon, CA in 1964. Barbara returned home with her family to Alamogordo in 1965. In 1968, their second daughter Betty was born. In that very same year, Barbara bought Camille's House of Flowers and for 15 years the residents of Alamogordo knew that flower shop as, "Barbara's House of Flowers." Barbara loved the world of flowers and shared her gift with the community, celebrating their personal milestones. Such as, the birth of a child, helping brides plan their perfect day, anniversaries, to compassionately sitting with grieving customers as they chose flowers for their loved ones. During this time Barbara was able to work with friends such as Gen Jones and Ann Farrow. Everyone in town knew that the door of the flower shop was always open, and the coffee was always ready. Barbara sold the flower shop in 1983 and went to work at Flinn's Nursery, where she had a radio show "Digging in the Dirt." In 1987, Barbara worked with Jim Sanders and Henry Danley in opening a nursery at the Sanders & Danley Feed Store. Eventually, however, her first love of floral work called upon her again and Barbara began working at Surplus City Floral Dept. in the late 1980's. Barbara again was given the opportunity to work with her friend Gen Jones at Floral Expressions in 1990. Alamogordo Flower Company was the last place Barbara worked and where she became part of the Brabson family. On July 25, 1998 Barbara married Robert Perkins and retirement soon followed where they enjoyed a life of playing with grandchildren, traveling, fishing and of course gardening! After Robert passed away, she went to live with her daughter Betty and spent many weekends at Tammie's supervising all planting and digging! After all she had a radio show .....

During Barbara's last days she was surrounded by family and friends and many memories were shared with her and every person who entered her room was greeted by her smile. It was asked at the hospital just how many children did your mother have and we laughed. That was the type of person she was .... a mom, a grandmother, an aunt and of course a friend. We would never be able to list all of the people who claimed her for their own, but to name just a few, Kristen, Mariana, Michelle. Rosalind and Margi. Please know that everyone had a special place in her heart.

Survivors include her two daughters, Tammie Sanchez (Mario) of La Luz, NM and Betty L. Thompson (Ben) of Alamogordo, NM; grandchildren Brandon W. Brockett, Jason A. Brockett (Ronella), Caitey A.
