Native of Tularosa
Beatrice V. Gonzales passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009, in McAllen, Texas. She was born Sept. 28, 1927. She is the daughter of the late Jose and Felicitas Valle. She is a graduate of Alamogordo High School. She had a great love of music and was a member of the church choir at St. Francis de Paula in Tularosa. She devoted her time to her church, church choir and Senior Olympics. She was a charter member of the Iren Fresquez –Charlie Guillen American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 108, volunteer of the American Cancer Society, and supported Bataan area prisoners of war and a variety of other community activities and events. Beatrice also served as a board member of the Betty Dare Nursing Home in Alamogordo. Beatrice maintained a life of service to others and the community she loved dearly. She worked each election at voting precincts, attended Bataan conventions, prepared meals for friends and family during their celebrations and funerals, visited the sick and always had time for her friends. She traveled to Europe, Korea and all over the United States with her family.  
She is survived by her daughters Martha Luna and her husband, Jessie, of McAllen, Margaret Gonzales-Boltz and her husband, Steven, of Heidelberg, Germany, and Anna Gonzales-Peterson and her husband, Erik, of Seattle, Wash.; and her grandchildren, Alicia Louise Luna and Jessie Albert Luna. of McAllen, Travis Gonzales Boltz, of Fort Lewis, Wash., and Elliott James Boltz, of West Point, N.Y. Also surviving her are her brothers Luis Valle and wife, Beatrice, and Raymundo Valle and wife, Estela, and sister Tomasa D'Arezzo and husband, Bob, all of Alamogordo.
Beatrice is preceded in death by her husband, Albert M. Gonzales, of Tularosa, a former prisoner of World War II and survivor of the Bataan Death March; infant daughter Marie Maxine; her parents Jose and Felicitas Valle; sister Carmen V. Malone and brother Joe Valle Jr.
The holy rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa. The holy rosary will be led by Lilly Valle-Furphy, of Ruidoso. The Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Tularosa Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Charlie Marrujo, Michael D'Arezzo, Joseph D'Arezzo, Alex Chavez Jr. David Gonzales and Manuel Malone Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Alicia Louise Luna, Travis Gonzales Boltz, Elliott James Boltz and Jessie Albert Luna.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Franciscan Friars.
