Beneranda J. Olascoaga Obituary
Beneranda "Betty" J. Olascoaga went to be with the lord Friday, July 27, 2012. She was surrounded by her family after a courageous eight-year battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born April 17, 1934, in Carrizozo to Jose Amado and Manuelita Garcia Jauregui.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lorenzo; parents Jose Amado and Manuelita; sisters Eva and Toni; and brothers Efren, Juan, Henry and Elmon.
A devoted mother and grandmother, she leaves behind daughters Diana O. Tellez and husband, Avelino, MaryAnn Olascoaga, Cindy O. Brooks and husband, Ray, Eva Olascoaga and partner, Steve Alarid, and Rachel Olascoaga; life partner Sarah Nazorek and son, Alex; and one son, Robert Olascoaga.
She is also survived by grandsons Adrian Tellez and wife, Venessa, Andrew Tellez and partner, Jeannette Brisceno, Adam Tellez and partner, Mayra Duarte, Lorenzo and Jacob Olascoaga and Lukas Alarid; a very special granddaughter, Alicea Olascoaga; beautiful great-granddaughters Mia and Marlee Tellez; sisters Nellie Lozano and Adela Bull, of California; special nephew Joe Salazar of Socorro; sisters-in-law Helen Jauregui, of Rialto, Calif., and Terri Olascoaga, of Albuquerque; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Betty lived in Tularosa for 51 years, raising a family with her husband, Lorenzo. She was a devoted member of the St. Francis de Paula Spanish choir for many of those years before moving to Albuquerque in 2008. She leaves behind many close friends from Tularosa whom she loved dearly.
Cremation services have been entrusted to Daniels Funeral Home in Albuquerque. Following cremation, a rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa.
A funeral mass will be held immediately following the rosary. Internment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery after the mass.
A reception will be held in Betty's honor at the St. Francis de Paula parish hall after the services.
Thank you to Dr. Francisco Ampuero and his dedicated and caring nursing staff who played such an invaluable role in the last eight years of her life. A very special thank you to Hospice of the Sandias in Albuquerque, especially Terry Lopez, Cynthia Ortega and JoAnn Nelson, who provided such loving care and allowed our mother dignity and grace during her final days of life.
