Beryl Irene Vannier, 72, of Alamogordo, formerly of West Sand Lake, N.Y., died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, after a long battle with cancer and other health problems.
Mrs. Vannier was born in Surrey, England, the daughter of the late Edith White and Alfred Miles. Mrs. Vannier had seven brothers and sisters, five of whom predeceased her.
The wife of Charles A. Vannier, who survives her, for 58 years, Mrs. Vannier came to the United States with her husband soon after their marriage.
Mrs. Vannier was the mother of Dan Vannier, Stephen and Lourdes Vannier, and Vonnie Vannier and Steve Stasack; grandmother of Krystyna Vannier, the late Walter Vannier, Daniel Vannier, Jeffrey Vannier, Sarah Vannier, Valeria Vannier, Evan Vannier; James and Amanda Stasack; and great-grandmother of Trent Barrilla. Mrs. Vannier is also survived by many dear friends.
Many years ago, Mrs. Vannier was employed by the Hendrick Hudson Hotel and by Bart Dormandy Insurance. As a stay-at-home mom, she developed a business selling antiques from her home. Mrs. Vannier was one of the founding members of the Sand Lake Historical Society and was active in supporting other community organizations.
Mrs. Vannier was well known for her primitive paintings of Sand Lake area, and her painting of Brookside Park in the late 1890s is depicted in the book, "Sand Lake," by Mary French and Robert Lilly.
Mrs. Vannier moved to New Mexico in 2002 for her health and to spend more time with her family in that area. She continued her painting and enjoyed sharing her gift with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Vannier's family is deeply grateful for the caring and wonderful help of Alamogordo Home Health Care and Hospice.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home.

The Vannier family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
