Beth Anne Fierro, 57
Beth Anne Fierro, 57, of Tularosa, passed away Aug. 16, 2010, in Alamogordo. She was born June 6, 1953 in Memphis, Tenn., and raised in Detroit. Beth was an Otero County resident for the past 32 years.
At age 51, after completing her bachelor's and master's degrees at New Mexico State University, Beth discovered her true calling and became a speech language pathologist. She worked for Casa Arena Nursing Home and for the Alamogordo and Tularosa public schools, making many special friends from her co-workers and clients. She received immense satisfaction from helping the area community children and elderly overcome communication challenges and improve their livelihoods.
Beth enjoyed gardening, cooking, visiting antique shops and garage sales, and playing with her grandchildren. She loved football season and cheering for the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.
Beth is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lea (Davidson) Wertman. She is survived by her husband, Armando Fierro, of the family home; brother Budd Wertman, of La Luz; daughters Valerie Lea Lacy and her husband, Rodney, and Annie Beth Bugaj, of Albuquerque; niece Melanie Ann Crawford and her husband, Gerald, of Alamogordo; grandchildren Reace, Anya, and Harlan Lacy; great-nephew Tyrus Gwaltney and great-niece Billie Lea Crawford; cousins Coma Jackson, of Albuquerque, Roma Livingston and her husband, Jimmy, of Tularosa, and Fred Livingston and his wife, Roberta, of Tularosa.
Visitation will be at Hamilton-O'Dell funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, with the memorial service at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2010. Cremation will follow.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Dr. Korec's office, Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center, the University of New Mexico Hospital and the Otero Community Cancer Center for their tireless support and care of Beth during her time of need.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Beth's name to the Otero Community Cancer Center.
The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
