Beth H. Gardner, 82, of Longmont, Colo., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at The Bridge Assisted Living Center.
She was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Elysburg, Pa., to Harry and Grace (Cleaver) Hartman. Beth graduated from Elysburg High School in 1945 and then from Bloomsburg State Teachers College in Bloomsburg, Pa., in 1949.
Beth married Jack Elias Gardner on June 1, 1949, in Elysburg.
She was a school teacher in Montana, New Mexico and Guam, where she taught every grade but first grade and touched the lives of over 1,500 students. During her teaching career, Beth was also a high school librarian for two years.
Beth was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Order of Eastern Star, Elks Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, United Methodist Women and Longs Peak United Methodist Church. In 2008, Beth volunteered over 200 hours at the Hope Cancer Care Center at Longmont United Hospital. She enjoyed camping, traveling, gardening, dancing and watching the birds. Beth was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1989; her parents; and her brother Leon Hartman.
Beth is survived by her son David Gardner (Theresa), of Tracy, Calif.; her daughter Kathleen "Kat" Gonderinger (Bryan), of Longmont; four grandchildren, Leanna Kendall (Ben), of Durham, N.C., Kira Toohey (Brandon), of Longmont, Donovan Gardner (Misty), of Tacoma, Wash., and Natasha Gardner, of Tracy; her great-granddaughter Kallie Gardner and her former son-in-law William Nosbisch.
Funeral service was at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Visitation was prior to the funeral. Cremation will follow services at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
