Bettie Faye McGinnis, 77
Bettie passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011, in Alamogordo. She was born March 19, 1933, in LaPryor, Texas, to Mildred Smith Davenport and Lyle Davenport. Her mother passed away when Bettie was 9 days old and she was raised by her grandmother. Bettie had lived in Alamogordo since December 2008.
She married Gary McGinnis at Holloman Air Force Base on Aug. 28, 1958.
Bettie leaves her husband of 52 years, Gary; son Lonnie and wife, Kathy, of Orangeburg, S.C.; a daughter, Debra, and husband, Ken, of Beechwood, N.J.; stepson Kenny and wife, Judy, of Park City, Kan.; sister Virginia Darnold and husband, Paul Dean, of Alamogordo; niece Brandy Darnold, of Ruidoso; cousin Georgealta Moss and husband, Mervin, of Alamogordo; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Bettie was active in wives' clubs and sports. She was the first woman to bowl in the New Mexico and Texas Masters. She bowled professionally for six years.
Bettie was wives' club president three times at Holloman Air Force Base; one time at Royal Air Force Lakenheath; one time in Okinawa, Japan; and one time in Saudi Arabia. She had to curtail her activities because of her declining health.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel.
Pallbearers include Mervin Moss, Paul Darnold, Lonnie Rolls, Patrick O'Brien, Lonnie Roe and Gary Jon Roe.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The McGinnis family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
