Obituary Condolences

Pete Gililland, 79, a lifetime resident of the Tularosa Basin, passed peacefully to join his wife and his Lord on Oct. 12, 2007, in Albuquerque. He was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Tularosa. He retired in 1979 from Mountain Bell Telephone Company after 27 years.
Pete enjoyed caring for horses, cows, pigs and other assorted creatures. Many people enjoyed stopping by Uncle Pete and Aunt Wilma's house for a good game of cards, dominoes or dice. They often left there with arms full of produce from Pete's "little" garden.
Survivors include his three daughters, Shirley Gililland, of Rio Rancho, Rhonda Ballard and her husband Richard, of Rio Rancho, and Connie Lyons, of Grants; four grandchildren, Austin Scripp, of Rio Rancho, Kimberly Himmel and her husband Marty, of Rio Rancho, Krystal Lyones, of San Antonio, Texas, and Smokey Lyons and his wife Lisa, of Shawnee, Okla.; one great-grandson, Lil' Marty Himmel; sister Lola Tucker; brother Jess Gililland and his wife Louise; brother-in-law Alfred Nowell; sister-in-law Doris Smith; and countless nieces and nephews who will really miss their Uncle Pete, but who hold in their hearts many memories and his stories.
He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma; a son-in-law, Jack Scripp; father Richard and mother Ginevra Gililland; brother Sam Gililland; and sisters Alice Smith and Dixie Tucker.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 20, 2007, at Bethel Baptist Church, 1316 N. Scenic Drive, with Billy Tucker officiating. A potluck lunch will follow the service at the same location.
Pallbearers are Jess Gililland, Austin Scripp, Smokey Lyons, Richard Ballard, Marty Himmel, Dwayne Nowell and Jerod Walker.
