Bobby Ray Hays Obituary

Bobby Ray Hays, 73, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at 12:02 a.m. after a long battle with diabetes.

Bob was born on June 18, 1941, in Enterprise, Okla., to Bert and Eunice (Gulley) Hays. His childhood years were spent in Wilson, Okla., where he was the oldest of five children.

He graduated from Okemah High School in Okemah, Okla., in 1960. Upon graduation, he attended Oklahoma State University before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He faithfully served his country in Vietnam and was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis from 1974 to 1981. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant after 20 years of service.
In 1964, he married Judith Lynn Robinson of Okemah. They were married for over 50 years and raised two sons, Bob's hobbies included golf, bowling, pool, and traveling. He also was an avid reader.

After retirement, Bob returned to school, earning his bachelor degree in business and recreation. For the next 20 years, he worked civil services, managing the Holloman Air Force Base Bowling Center. A disabled vet he served as commander of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 7686 in Alamogordo, in recent years. He was also a member of the Elks, Eagles, Moose and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Eunice (Gulley) Hays; two brothers, Jerry and David Hays, and his brother-in-law, Keith Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Lynn (Robinson) Hays of Alamogordo; son, Curtis Lee Hays and wife Teresa of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Scott Alan Hays and wife Casey of Clovis; grandchildren, Logan Hays of Portales; Zach Hays and Faith Hays of Clovis; Courtney Tynanes and husband Michael of Panama City, Fla.; Cody Lee of Tucson, Ariz.; one great-grandson, Owen Tynanes of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Joyce James of Shawnee, Okla., and Joanna Smith of Tulsa, Okla., sisters-in-law Cherry Hays of Tulsa, Okla., and Judy Spellmann and husband Bob of Oklahoma City, Okla., and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service in honor Bobby will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 1, 2014, at the VFW Post 7686, 700 Highway 70 West. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Alamogordo Funeral Home.
