Bonnie Marjorie Knight

1923 - 2008 Obituary Condolences
Bonnie Marjorie Knight died on Feb. 26, 2008, in Albuquerque. Marge, as she was called by friends and family, was born on March 17, 1923, to Lloyd and Hanna Madge (Daves) Benton in Grand Junction, Colo.
She spent her childhood in St. John, Kan. under the care of her paternal grandparents, Amanda and Charles Benton. She left Kansas for Colorado at about age 14 to live with her father in a farming community near Marvel, Colo.
It was while attending Fort Lewis College (the old campus at Hesperus, Colo.) that she met and married Raymond Knight on Aug. 9, 1944. Their daughter Karen was born in 1945 in Inglewood, Calif., while Ray was overseas during WWII. After the war, the Knights made their home first in Inglewood. Their son Corby was born in 1947. A few years later, the family moved back to Colorado where they farmed on the Dry Side, near Marvel. Their son Paul was born in Durango, Colo., in 1954.
While Paul was still a baby, they moved to La Luz and Ray worked at Holloman Air Base. Later they moved to Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands and then to Las Vegas before finally moving back to Alamogordo where Marge continued to make her home after Ray's death in 1995. She moved to a care facility in Albuquerque to be near her son Corby after she suffered a disabling stroke two years ago.
Marge dedicated her life to caring for her family. She had a strong moral fiber and raised her family accordingly. She never complained about the rough times life handed her. She just dealt with whatever it was and did what needed doing.
Marge was a lover of picnics. Her other interests included needlework, golf, bridge, square dancing, amateur painting, cake decorating, walking and reading.
She is preceded in death by her husband and her son, Paul.
She is survived by her son, Corby Knight, of Albuquerque; a daughter, Karen Harvey, of Nenana, Alaska; a brother, Cecil Benton, of Durango; a sister, Joan Huskey, of Marvel, Colo.; a half sister, Madge Parker, of Liberal, Kan.; grandsons, Justin Harvey, of Fairbanks, Alaska, Camron Harvey, of El Paso, Texas, and Eric Harvey, of Cordova, Alaska; and great-grandchildren, Evelin, Camron Ray, Catherine, Brian, Nickolas and Anna Harvey, all of El Paso.
A graveside memorial service and celebration of her life is scheduled at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 17, at Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo. A reception will follow from 3 to 6 p.m. at the 19th Hole Restaurant at Desert Lakes Golf Course.
