Carmen Prelo Brusuelas Obituary
Carmen Prelo Brusuelas, 85, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, in Alamogordo.
She was born on April 25, 1926, in Cloudcroft to the late Marcelino G. Prelo and Josephine (Montoya) Prelo. Mrs. Brusuelas married Paul D. Brusuelas on June 27, 1948 in Mescalero.
Mrs. Brusuelas was a life long area resident having been raised on the Mescalero reservation. She was a member of St. Joseph's Apache mission, one of the original mothers' of Zia Therapy Center and a member of the Tularosa School Board. She was also co-owner of the Big Chief Store. Mrs. Brusuelas loved hunting, fishing and traveling with her husband. Mrs. Brusuelas also attended school in Cloudcroft, Lower Elk, Bent and Tularosa. She graduated from Tularosa High School in 1944.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mercelino and Josephine Prelo; and one sister, Dora Hinshaw.
Survivors include her husband, Paul D. Brusuelas; son, Larry Brusuelas, Sr. and his wife Glenda of Mescalero; daughter, Margie Brusuelas of Alamogordo; three grandchildren, Paul J. Brusuelas and his wife Stephanie, Larry Brusuelas Jr. and Marc Brusuelas and his wife Coy of Mescalero; three great-grandchildren, Raegan, Michael and Lanson B. She is also survived by two brothers, Henry Prelo of Tularosa and Marc Prelo of Albuquerque; and four sisters, Beatrice Melendrez and her husband Issac of Las Cruces, Josephine Smith of Tularosa, Margie L. Garza and her husband Lalo Garza of Las Cruces and Roberta Montoya and her husband George of California.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home, 1334 N. Scenic Dr., Alamogordo, NM and Wednesday from 5 until 6 p.m. at St. Joseph's Apache Mission.
The Rosary will be recited Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, 6.p.m. at St. Josephs Apache Mission by Harry Vasile. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday, Jan.19, 2012, 10 a.m. at St. Josephs Apache Mission with Father Paul Botenhagen, O.F.M., Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery, Bent.
