Tech. Sgt. Charles A. Knowlton Obituary
Tech. Sgt. Charles A. Knowlton passed away suddenly Friday, April 22, 2011, in Germany from a massive heart attack. He was born in Alamogordo on Aug. 13, 1979. He grew up here, frequently traveling to Elephant Butte Lake, camping with his family. He excelled in school, graduating as an overall Golden Scholar and as an athlete; he participated on the high school golf team that went to the state championships his senior year.
Chuck entered the Air Force in November 2000. He completed technical school in diagnostic imaging with honors in both Phase I and II of the program. His first duty assignment was Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004, and acquired his national certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in 2006.
In October 2006, Tech. Sgt. Knowlton arrived to Germany. His outstanding service and dedication to the mission at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center led to his selection to receive advanced training in computed tomography (CT). In August 2007, he was appointed as the non-commissioned officer in charge of the CT Section - the busiest section of its kind outside of the United States.
Tech. Sgt. Knowlton was an avid traveler, exploring Europe and naming Paris as one of his favorite cities. He enjoyed movies and was known to try to recreate favorite restaurant meals in his own kitchen.
He is survived by his mother, Jean Knowlton, of Alamogordo; sister Tech. Sgt. Kimberly Knowlton, of Kailua, Hawaii; grandmother Vivian TenBrink, of Fremont, Mich.; aunts and uncles Bill and Sue TenBrink, of Fremont, Wayne and Jeri TenBrink, of Fremont, Jay and Gaye TenBrink, of Goodrich, Mich., Ruth and Steve Turner, of Labadie, Mo., Gayle and Al Buckley, of Anderson Island, Wash., Cheryl and Ron Schultz, of Alamogordo, Joyce and Danny Knowlton, of Marion, N.C., Martha and Kevin Knowlton, of Marion, and Cindy Schuping, of Marion; and numerous cousins.
Tech. Sgt. Knowlton was preceded in death by his father, Ed Knowlton, and grandparents Adrian TenBrink, Frederick Charles Knowlton and Joyce Knowlton.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home chapel. The family invites family and friends to join them there to exchange good memories following the service.
The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army or .
