1930 - 2008 Obituary Condolences
Charles Edgar Hugar was born on July 25, 1930, in Altoona, Pa. He passed away on Sept. 3, 2008, in Ruidoso, New Mexico. He was born to Howard Hugar Sr. and Mildred Blackie.
Charles was born and raised in Altoona, Pa. He graduated from Altoona High School on June 18, 1945. He served in the United States Army for 23 years beginning on Jan. 18, 1967. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
His received numerous service medals and unit patches and was honorably discharged in 1971. He married Elbys Naiche on April 17, 1971, in Apache, Olka. He moved to Mescalero in 1974 and worked at Marvel Engineering from 1975 to 1989, retiring in 1989.
Charles and Elbys traveled all over the United States from California to New York State and Canada. They loved to travel together.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Elbys Hugar of Mescalero; two sisters, Margaret Epolito and Ruth Cline; a brother Howard Hugar Jr; seven children, Charles C. Hugar, Clarissa Hugar, Christine Hugar, Margaret Hugar, all of Oklahoma and Christopher Hugar, Curtis Hugar and Robert Hugar of Mescalero; eight step-children, Jackie Blaylock, Dennis Blaylock, Ronnie Blaylock, James Natchez, Troy Blaylock Sr., Joyce Waters, Debbie Martinez and Alda Mae Enjady, all of Mescalero; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Howard Hugar Sr. and a sister, Bertha Fredenberger.
Sunday evening prayer service will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at the Mescalero Reformed Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8 at the Mescalero Community Center.
