Clara Danley
Jan. 8, 1914 -July 13, 2016
Together Again…
…On Wednesday, July 13, 2016, after 22 years and 8 days, Clara Danley was reunited with her beloved husband, John "Frank" Danley. Clara was 102 years, 6 months and 5 days at her passing; one of the longest lived of either hers or Frank's families. Clara and Frank had been married for 63-1/2 years when he passed away on July 5, 1994 at the age of 84.Clara Lois Daugherty was born in Avis, NM on January 8, 1914 to Jasper Newton Daugherty Jr. and Lizzie Alice Ivans. Clara had three brothers – Almer, Alton and Alva, and three sisters – Winnie, Myrtle and Frances. For nearly twenty years now, Clara had been the only member of her family still living.Clara and her siblings walked to attend the Mescalero School while her family farmed in Nogal Canyon. Later, Clara attended the Red Brick Schoolhouse in Cloudcroft when the family farmed in Cox Canyon before moving to Cloudcroft. Clara finished the ninth grade in Cloudcroft, and then the family moved to Alamogordo where Clara attended high school until she wed Frank Danley, on Dec. 27, 1930 and they began their married life. Frank and Clara had four children, all born in Alamogordo, Maynard in 1934 (deceased), June in 1937, Arleen in 1939 (deceased) and Wesley in 1941. All four carried on their granddaddy Jasper Daugherty's musical talent.
In 1952, Frank and Clara moved to Las Cruces, where Frank worked as shop foreman until his retirement in 1972. He and Clara then moved back to Otero County, near Tularosa. Affectionately known by most of her family as 'Nannie', Clara shared her love of sewing by gifting family members with beautiful clothes, handmade quilts and crocheted afghans that will be treasured dearly by those who loved her for years to come. According to her family, Clara was the silent backbone of the entire family. She loved one man and one man only from the time she was a teenager until she left this earth at 102. She had a great laugh and a beautiful smile. Clara never complained about anything and had a good word to say about everyone she knew. She loved to read and enjoyed listening to her family make music. Clara loved her family and spent countless hours writing out the family history and genealogy so future generations could read the many interesting stories of their ancestors. Her favorite passage from the Bible was the 23rd Psalm and she could recite it nearly word for word even after she was 100 years old.Clara is preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings and two children. She is survived by her daughter June Batte (Bonard), son Wesley Danley (MaryK), son-in-law Jim Muncrief, and ten grandchildren: Faron Danley (Donna), Michael Danley (Lisa), Becky Batte Lane (Ken), Frank Batte (Karen), Cherie Muncrief Tucker (David), Jimi Muncrief Ickes (Louie), Todd Danley (Jerre), JoDitt Danley Williams (Keil), TinaMarie Danley Bruce (Zane) and July Danley.
