Clemmie Elnora Conley Obituary
Clemmie, known to everyone as Elnora Conley, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, Aug. 24. 2011.
She was born in Elizabeth, La., to Ennis Adams Sr. and Josephine Greenwood Adams. She attended the Beaumont, Texas, Public Schools and Vallejo, Calif., Public Schools systems, and later obtained her general education diploma.
She moved to Alamogordo in 1962 and later attended New Mexico State University-Alamogordo, receiving a secretarial certificate.
She united with the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in May 1962 where she was dedicated to Christ and her church. Elnora cherished singing for the Lord. Not only did she love singing, she was concerned about those learning more about Christ. She was the Christian education director there for many years. She loved her Sunday school and Baptist Training Union children.
She united in marriage to Charles Lee Conley in November 1971.
She enjoyed working for Marvin and Lucy Rohovec, Darwin and Kathy Moses, Carol Burroughs, and Rolla and Pearl Buck for numerous years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ennis and Josephine Adams Sr. and three sisters, Damella Sherman, Thereatha Fritz, Barbara Jean Philmon and Charles Conley.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Elder Linda D. Christian (Elder Walter), of Country Club Hills, Ill., Janice 0. Gross and JoAnna Conley, of Alamogordo; one son, minister Tracy E. Adams (minister Debra), of Plano, Texas; two brothers, Ennis Adams Jr. (Naomi), of Houston, and Nathan Adams (Burla), of Alamogordo; one brother-in-law, Bobby Joe Fritz Sr., of Alamogordo; 10 grandchildren, Pamela King, Phyllis King, Devin Christian, Alvin Thereagood Jr., Terrance Thereagood, Marques (Sevin) Adams, Jason (Justus) Adams, Danielle Adams Yarde, Ashley Cade and Janai Germany; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted at the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 308 Maryland Ave., on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Willard L. Avery officiating.
Pallbearers include Deacon Melvin E. Mills, Deacon Parris Veasley, Alvin Thereagood Jr., Gregory L. Taylor, Leman Taylor Jr. and Donald Bolin.
Honorary pallbearers are New Zion Missionary Women Society.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel.
The Conley family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
