Obituary Condolences

Retired Teacher
Cleo K. Harris, 92, of La Luz, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008, at her home.
Cleo was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Mineral Springs, Ark., to W.O. and Maude (Compton) Kolb. She attended the University of New Mexico and following graduation met and married the geologist, Dave Harris. His career took them to California, where their first daughter was born; then to Boulder, Colo., where their twin son and daughter were born; and to Fort Collins, Colo., where Cleo resumed teaching in the Poudre Valley High Schools and Dave created the geology department at Colorado State University. Upon retirement, they moved to La Luz where together they produced three editions of the text on the geology of the national parks. Cleo continued her lifelong quilting and became active in the New Mexico Native Plant Society, her book club and a conversational French group. For many years she was a volunteer at the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, where she played the piano.
Survivors include her son Tom Harris, of Vancouver, Wash.; two daughters, Peggy Harris, of Guffey, Colo., and Nan H. Daniels, of Loveland, Colo.; two grandchildren, Kirsten Parsons, of Snohomish, Wash., and Karen Tully, of Raymond, Wash.; and one great-granddaughter, Tuija Parsons, of Snohomish.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Hillman Kolb; and a sister, Lourene Collingsworth.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1010 16th St.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
