Clima Washington Obituary
Clima Washington, 74
""I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.""
- Galatians 2:20
Sister Climatyne Washington was born Oct. 9, 1936, to David and Mildred Owens, in Jena, La. She graduated from Goodpine High School in Jena and attended Monroe Business College in Louisiana for two years. Later she became a bus driver for the Alamogordo Public Schools.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Mars Hill Baptist Church in Louisiana. She later rededicated her life and was baptized by the Rev. James Forney at the Corinth Baptist Church in Alamogordo.
Sister Washington worked faithfully in her church. She served capably in various capacities: president of the senior choir, song leader in the Baptist Training Union, adviser for the Young Matrons and member of the State Choir. She was a soloist, and she enjoyed all things related to gospel music. Clima loved to drive and travel the countryside.
Her memories will be cherished by her two sons, Jeffery Washington and Derrick T. Washington and wife, Meah, of Alamogordo; her sister Velma Holly, of Alamogordo; her three grandchildren, Zachary, Courtney and Damon Washington; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Devante and Zoe Marie Washington, of Alamogordo, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Courtney Washington; her parents David and Mildred Owens; her brother David J. Owens; and her sister Dorothy Calloway.
Funeral services for Sister Washington will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Corinth Baptist Church with Pastor James Forney officiating.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011, at Alamogordo Funeral Home.
The Washington family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
