Clyde Parker Wilson Sr. Obituary
Clyde Parker Wilson Sr., of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Del Mar Gardens in Henderson, Nev., following a brief illness. He was 82.
Mr. Wilson was born July 29, 1928, in Doddsville, Miss., to Cicero and Geneva Wilson.
He married Eugenia Ann Smith on April 3, 1951, in Greenville, Miss. They moved many times in the following years until settling in Alamogordo in 1969, where they lived for 35 years.
Clyde proudly served his country for 50 years, including both military and civil service. His military career began in the Marine Corps from 1946-1949. He joined the U.S. Army in 1951, where he attended flight training and became a helicopter pilot. He retired from the Army in 1968 as a major.
He continued his career with the civil service at White Sands Missile Range, where he would eventually log over 18,000 hours of accident-free flight time. In his 30-year span at White Sands, he never claimed a single day of sick leave. He retired in 1998.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid sports fan and athlete in his time. He particularly enjoyed golf, ping-pong and pool, and was a superb Little League coach in Alamogordo in the 1970s.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Eugenia, in 2004.
He is survived by son Clyde Wilson Jr., of San Antonio, Texas, and his wife, Betty; daughter Donna Ennis, of Alamogordo; son John Wilson, of Albuquerque; son Kelly Wilson, of Durango, Colo., and his wife, Valerie; sister Doris Switzer, of Corpus Christi, Texas; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held.
