Colleen B. Danley Obituary

Colleen B. Danley passed away at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque on Saturday, August 9. She was 87 years old, born in Seminole, Okla., to Ira "Jack" and Ethel Bivens on May 31, 1927.

She was preceded in death by husband, John Danley, her parents and brothers, Lawrence and Edward Bivens.

She is survived by her daughters, Jacquelyn Switzer (Rick) of Cloudcroft and Janice King (Bob) of Alamogordo. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Casey (Sylvia) of Garfield; Cody (Mikel) of Las Cruces; Kelly (Donovan) Gurley of Los Lunas; Edward J. McAlpine Jr. of Colo.; Debbie Register (Justin Lambert) of Dona Ana, and her great-grandchildren Nichole, Matthew, Cole, Taylor and Mackenzie McGuire, Kyle and Kirby Gurley, Kimberly and Kaitlyn McAlpine, Rebecca and Chase Register, and Reacher Lambert; her aunt Bonnie Bellamy of Norman, Okla., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the western states.

Colleen moved to Tularosa with her father and brothers when she was seven years old, and she lived in the Alamogordo area for most of her life. She and John lived in Kino Bay, Mexico, for over eight years after his retirement. After his passing, she moved to Artesia to be near her niece. Then she spent six years in Marble Falls, Texas, near Janice and returned to her beloved Alamogordo for six years. When she was no longer able to live alone, she moved in with her granddaughter, Kelly and her husband Donnie (her honorary grand-son) in Los Lunas for the last year and a half.

Colleen was always a free spirit and very independent. She was a wonderful storyteller of her past. She loved to travel, dance, swim and socialize with friends and family. She was an active member of the Eagle Forum and a past officer and member of the Council for the Blind. She will truly be missed by everyone she met and by those whose hearts she touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted by the Otero Cowbells to send to the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranches in her memory.

The memorial service will be conducted at Monte Vista Cemetery, Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 10 a.m., with Victor Colton officiating.
A reception will follow at Wesley United Methodist Church. Food will be provided by the Otero Cowbells.

The Danley family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
