Dale Alan Walker, 61, of Alamogordo, passed away in Gainesville, Fla., on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008.
Dale was born to Charles and LaVonne Walker Jan. 28, 1947, in Roswell. After growing up in Tucson, Ariz., Dale joined the Air Force and served for 23 years until his retirement in 1993.
During his military career, Dale earned numerous awards and received outstanding recognition for his dedication to the mission of the air force, including having been formally decorated 12 times.
His happiest and proudest moments were spent as a navigator in the F4 fighter jet. In his later air force years, Dale worked as a test director for AFOTEC both at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., and at Holloman AFB.
After retiring from the airforce as a lieutenant colonel, Dale earned a master's degree in business management from Troy State University. In 1995, Dale began his second career, a government contractor and eventually went to work for BAE Systems as site manager for the NAATS facility at Holloman AFB. He worked in that capacity until 2006.
Dale is survived by his wife Debbie of the family home in Alamogordo; two sons, Bob Walker of Ajo, Ariz., and Tom Walker of Tempe, Ariz.; two stepsons, James Ward of Crestview, Fla., and A.J. Ward of Navarre, Fla.; two granddaughters, Kayli and Sarah; his mother, LaVonne Francisco, of Payson, Ariz.; his brother Jerry Walker of Snowflake, Ariz.; a stepsister Carolyn Rogers, of Parks, Ariz.; a stepbrother David Francisco of Littleton, Colo.; as well as many other relatives and close friends.
Dale will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., on Dec. 22.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel.
