1948 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Daniel Gene Upmeyer, of Alamogordo, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, in El Paso. He was born Dec. 15, 1948, in Mason City, Iowa, to Merlyn and Maxine (Stokesbary) Upmeyer.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years. He served as an M-1 tank commander in Desert Storm in the first Persian Gulf War. He also served three tours in Germany as well as various tours stateside.
As a former mechanic, he enjoyed working on engines and spending time with the love of his life, Susie, who called him "Danny Bear, the perfect husband." They met at the birthday party for her best friend's daughter at a roller rink in Barstow, Calif., while he was stationed at Fort Irwin.
He married Susie Bush on Nov. 6, 1982, in Las Vegas, Nev. They enjoyed almost 31 years of wedded bliss and lived in many places during his Army career.
He was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife, Susie, of the home; his mother Maxine Upmeyer, of Garner, Iowa; three sisters Becky (Darrell) Lucht, of Hulbert, Okla.; Linda (Bob) Wages, of Bixby, Okla., and Jill (Marc) Dean, of Mason City. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews: Heather Lopez, of Oklahoma City; Dylan Lucht, of Fort Gibson, Okla.; Daniella Williams, of Bixby; David Wages, of Tulsa, Okla.; Jade Winfrey, of Orlando Fla.; Paul King, of Omaha, Neb.; and David King, of Yermo, Calif.; and their families.
He was preceded in death by his father Merlyn Upmeyer, father-in-law Arthur Bush and brother-in-law Delbert Bush.
Daniel is interred at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso
