Obituary Condolences

Daniel V. Ortega, 82, a lifelong resident of Alamogordo, died Friday, January 16, 2009, at his home. Mr. Ortega was born May 7, 1926, in Alamogordo. He served in the Navy during World War II, and retired from the Army National Guard, having also served in the Korean conflict. He was an inspector with civil service at Holloman Air Force Base and retired in 1988. He was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista and a devoted 42-year life member of Alamogordo-Tularosa V.F.W. Post 7686. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Margaret Ortega, of the family home; a son, Daniel R. Ortega and his wife, Teresa, of Alamogordo; two daughters, Darlene Y. Mallari and her husband, Mario, of El Paso, and Virginia L. Ice and her husband, Marvin, of Wolfforth, Texas; three stepsons, Sal Prudencio and his wife, Susie, of Mesa, Ariz., and George Prudencio and Carlos Prudencio, both of Alamogordo; 13 grandchildren, Eric Ashe and his wife, Destiny, of San Antonio, Texas, Christina M. Reeves and her husband, Travis, of Moriarty, Danielle Ortega and David Ortega of Alamogordo, Jessica Holguin and her husband, Oscar, of El Paso, Chelesty Ice of Lubbock, Texas, Diana Sierra and her husband, Frank, Adam Prudencio and his wife Patty, Daniel Prudencio, David Prudencio and his wife, Shawna, and Yvonne Saldana and her husband, Gilbert, all of Alamogordo, David Terry of San Antonio, Texas, and David Terry of Albuquerque; 26 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Santos Dias of Texas, Saturnino Noriega and Antinio Noriega and his wife, Vina, of Alamogordo, and Gavino Noriega, Jr. and his wife, Stella, of Albuquerque; and three sisters, Lila Diaz, Jovita Benitez and Ermelinda Moyers and her husband, Bill, all of Alamogordo. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Ortega; three brothers, Jimmy Noriega, Johnny Ortega, and Ismael Ortega; a sister, Lupe Delgado; and two grandchildren, Christopher Ice, and Jennifer Prudencio.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel with Inez "Naya" Benitez officiating.
Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Navy.
Pallbearers will be David Ortega, Franklin Sierra, Adam Prudencio, Danny Prudencio, David Prudencio and Alex Mallari. Mr. Ortega's grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
