David Clarence Weitzel Obituary

Former Otero County Manager
Loyal Public Servant

On Jan. 13, 2016, David Weitzel received the ultimate promotion to heaven. He was at home surrounded by his family when Jesus called for him to join Him in paradise.

He was the Otero County Manager from 1993-1995. He was a City and County Manager for various cities and counties in the western United States. His public service was guided by the Lords principles. He was loyal to his family, team, and community. He was always driven to do the right thing for the community regardless the cost.

In late 2003, he assisted the Government Reorganization project in Iraq. He spent five months there and worked with many wonderful people.

David volunteered with the Salvation Army, the Boy Scouts, the Planning Commission, and the Space Museum Boards.
He was an avid Denver Broncos and soccer fan. He loved life, adventure, his family, Skyping with the Grandkids, and most of all he loved the Lord.

David was an inspiration and gave others hope. He always asked others how they are and inquired about their family. He treated others with respect. An avid traveler and adventurer, in 2011 David finished his wish of traveling to all 50 states by visiting the beautiful state of Hawaii.

David was born in Loveland, Colo., to David and Christina (Wagner) Weitzel on August 8, 1945. His step mother Lois (Young) helped raise him.

He is survived by his wife Susan (Jorgensen) Weitzel; their daughter Christina, husband Tim and three children Ezra, Noah, and Elijah; their son John, his wife Katherine, and daughter Kylie. He is survived by one sister, Jeanette Rames, and her husband Phil.
He was 70 years old.

In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to the Gideon Society.
