Dee Simpson Obituary
Dee Simpson, 95

Dee Simpson was born December 31, 1920 in Guadalupe County New Mexico, the seventh of nine children born to W.R. and Naomi Simpson. Dee rode the school bus 10 miles to Vaughn New Mexico where he attended school.

His life as a cowboy on the McDonald ranch, on what is now White Sands Missile Range, was interrupted when he answered the call and volunteered to serve his country. He was a gunner's mate, second class petty officer, serving on the USSYP518 in the South Pacific during WWII.

He then spent many years as a carpenter, rock mason, farmer, mechanic, woodworker and gardener. He retired from Otero County Road department after 14 1/2 years.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, longtime member of the NRA and a proud member of the Burro flats volunteer fire department, all of this he did well into his 90s.

Church was always an important part of him, a devout Christian and family man. He never lost his great singing voice. He knew all the hymns by heart and did not need a hymnal. He was ordained as a deacon in 1962 and walked with the Lord every day.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.

He and his wife, the former Clara Ellen Pfingsten, observed their 70th wedding anniversary in June of this year. Their children are: Sandra Lakey and her husband Gene, Rick Simpson and his wife April, Tom Simpson and his wife Gayle, & Mark Simpson. Grandchildren: Clifford and Shamarie, Andee, Brian, Kelly, Kimberlee and Diego and a Great Grandson: Luke.

He is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews, and more friends than you can count.

Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, December 4 at 2 PM in the Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, December 5, at 10 AM at Faith Baptist Church 203 Alamo St., La Luz, NM with Pastor Jeff Hodges officiating. Burial will follow in Tularosa Fairview cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to: friends of Burro flats volunteer fire department. 556 Laborcita canyon, La Luz,NM 88337.

The Simpson family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
