Delore "Marty" Martell Obituary

Delore Martell (nickname Marty), 99, resided in Alamogordo, N.M., for 62 years. He was born in Park Falls, Wis., on March 17, 1917, to Fred Arthur Martell and Anna Schreimer. Delore passed away on Sept. 4, 2016, at 3:30 Sunday afternoon at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center after suffering a stroke during the night. He never woke up in the morning, he went peacefully.

He was a WWII Veteran and electrical technician who retired as a SMSgt. at Holloman AFB, N.M., after over 20 years of service. He also retired from Civil Service at Holloman AFB. Delore was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 7686 of Alamogordo and a member of the Military Order of the Cooties Apollo 20 of Alamogordo. He was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Delore loved to build things by hand all of the time. He made everything from lamps, bows and arrows, Indian headdresses and arrowheads, to designing and building three different homes.

Mr. Martell was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalie Mildred Mansfield Martell; his parents; three younger brothers; his younger sister; and his grandson.

Mr. Martell was survived by his second wife, Dorothy Beard Martell; two sons, Delore D. Martell and wife Pristine of Boles Rural Station, and Brian K. Martell and wife Peggy of Kettle Falls, Wash.; two daughters, Janis B. (Mrs. David) Wimmer of Alamogordo, and Marilyn J. (Mrs. Donald) Day of Allen, Texas; three grandsons, David Martell, Eric Wimmer, and Donald Day; five granddaughters, Sherrie Dinan, Tina Warner, Denise Houston, Nicole Day, and Chelsea Day; ten great grandsons and eleven great granddaughters.

The memorial service for Delore Martell will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at Bethel Baptist Church on Scenic Drive with Pastor Gary Buckner officiating.
Inurnment will follow at Boles Acres Cemetery.

The Martell family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
