Denis Fabian Long Obituary

Denis Fabian Long, 77, formerly of Alamogordo, passed away on December 28, 2015 in Kerrville, Texas. Denis was born on April 16, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Eugene and Therese Long.

His early years were spent in his family home in Chicago and in 1956, he enlisted in the US Air Force. Denis spent 12 years serving his country, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in May 1968. Relishing the dry New Mexico climate, he chose to raise his family in Alamogordo. He continued his federal career as a civil servant at Holloman AFB and White Sands Missile Range, retiring in 1993.

Throughout his life, Denis was a devoted father to his sons and thoroughly enjoyed the time they spent together. His hobbies included botany and collecting classic cars along with unique guns and coins, but his real love was model trains. Denis constructed elaborate layouts on various scales and was exceptionally skilled at detailing and finishing passenger cars. He was extremely proud of his steam locomotive collection, which numbered over 200.

Denis was preceded in death by his first wife Roberta Sue Long, his parents Eugene and Therese Long, his daughter, Mary, and his sister, Diana.

Denis is survived by his three sons Cornell Long and wife Pamela of Schertz, Texas; Tony Long of Alamogordo, N.M.; Scott Long of Alamogordo, N.M.; wife Kathie Long of Kerrville, Texas; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

A private gathering for family and friends to celebrate Denis' life will be held at a future date in Alamogordo.

Denis is lovingly remembered.
