Dewain R. Brown Obituary
Dewain R. Brown, 45, was suddenly taken from his family Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, in Alamogordo.
He was born June 8, 1965, at Boulder Community Hospital to Joyce and Floyd Brown, the eldest of three siblings. Brown attended school and made friends in the various states they called home, including Colorado, Indiana and Texas. In 1983, he graduated from Alba-Golden High School.
After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, which took him all over the world. He served in Okinawa, Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and many countries in the Arabian Peninsula. In the United States, he served mostly in Nevada and New Mexico, working on aircraft that includes the T-38, F-15, F-111 and the F-117a. The F-117a was the last aircraft upon which he worked the flight line before moving to quality assurance. He worked with QA until his retirement in 2003.
After his retirement, he joined High Desert Water Inc., where he worked until his unexpected death.
Dewain enjoyed volunteering with the community, but his special work he saved for the Animal Rescue Mission haunted house, Casa de los Muertos. There, he created props and special effects that are still remembered by those who saw them.
His happiest moments took place on Halloween, but it wasn't with the haunted house. His favorite part of the celebration was knowing that many people, young and old, got their first up-close sight of Saturn, Jupiter, the moon and stars through the telescope he set up near the haunted house each year.
Brown is survived by his wife of 22 years, Monica; daughter Meghann, 20; son Jordan, 16; and his mother Joyce, all of Alamogordo. He is also survived by sister Angie and her husband, Joe; nephew Robert and his wife, Ana; niece Jessica; and brother Greg, all of Canon City, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
A wake is in the planning stage for those who might wish to remember Dewain in person. A notice with a day and time will be published as soon as information is available.
