Donald Harvey Ogden Obituary

Don died in Phoenix on September 12, 2017 after a long illness. Born April 17, 1928 in St. Paul, Minn., he attended St. Paul Central High School and graduated from Carleton College and Harvard Business School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1956 aboard the Princeton and the Chipola, and went on to help manage early corporate computer systems for Honeywell, Motorola and Southwest Forest Industries in Minnesota, Massachusetts and Arizona. Don's good cheer, quick wit, innate curiosity and easy-going manner endeared him to everyone he met. He was a loyal and devoted husband, father, uncle and friend, quick to lend a hand without being asked, retaining legendary patience throughout his life. In high school and college, he cherished time as a camp counselor at Widjiwagan in northern Minnesota, and returned to the region subsequently on many canoe trips, later sharing his love of the outdoors by leading Boy Scout trips in the Grand Canyon. Don loved a good project, and delighted in moving to Tularosa, N.M., after retirement where he and Phyllis renovated a historic adobe and where he served on the local planning and zoning board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warner Ogden and Margaret Sweet Ogden and brothers Warner Ogden, Jr. and Harry Sweet Ogden.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Charles Ogden; children Chip (Annette), Sarah Johnston (Harvey), and Laura Eagle (Dan); granddaughters Ellis Johnston, Walker Johnston and Grace Ogden; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in Phoenix at a later date with interment at Oakland Cemetery in St. Paul, MN.

Memorials preferred to Camp Widjiwagan Scholarship Endowment Fund, YMCA Twin Cities, 30 South 9th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55402 or Cure Alzheimer's Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
