1932 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
Donald T. Ziegenfuss, 79, of Cloudcroft, entered eternal life Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Allentown, Pa., to Charles and Gladys (Thomas) Ziegenfuss. Donald is a descendent of Hans Jacob Ziegenfuss, a 1738 German immigrant to the colony of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1954 as a civil engineer and served his country honorably attaining the rank of captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Don then served 40 years in civil service, retiring from White Sands Missile Range as a deputy facility engineer. Don was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and animal lover. Don loved his family, his country and many friends unconditionally. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Donald Joseph Ziegenfuss. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 59 years, Joanne Mary (McDade) Ziegenfuss; three sons, Brian C. Ziegenfuss and wife, Berth (Watkins), of Clarksville, Tenn., Michael H. Ziegenfuss and wife, Terri (Sullivan), of Alamogordo, and Joseph P. Ziegenfuss, of Cloudcroft; and a brother, Charles Ziegenfuss of Allentown, Pa. Other survivors include grandchildren Donald Christian Ziegenfuss and wife, Monica; great-grandchildren Donald J. and Madison L. Ziegenfuss, Chris Sullivan and wife, Liz, Kadi L. Torres and husband, Timothy, Tyler Shrum; great-great-grandchildren Jocie, Sean and Ethan Smith; his niece Patrice (Moser) Steckle and her children Michael, Kasey and Beron Steckle; and nephew Harold Moser, all of Nazareth, Pa.
There was a private family service and per Don's request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local animal shelter.
