1928 - 2007 Obituary Condolences
Donna Jeane Coate, 79, of Alamogordo, died peacefully on Oct. 13, 2007, at Betty Dare Good Samaritan Nursing Facility in Alamogordo.
Donna Jeane was born April 20, 1928, to Scott E. Craton and Elnora M. (Hansen) Craton in the small farming community of Cordova, Ill., where she lived until graduating from high school in 1946.
On Sept. 19, 1946, she married William "Bill" C. Coate, her husband of 61 years. They raised five children.
She is survived by her husband Bill, of the family home; their children, Robert M. Coate and his wife Marlene, of Alamogordo, Sandra J. Donohue and her husband Michael, of Heidelberg, Germany, Linda J. Lemke and her husband Frog, of Bridge Creek, Okla.; Cheryl A. Emery and her husband John, of Cedar Hill, Texas, and Donna M. Pettengill and her husband Stan, of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren, Michael S. Coate; Alan W. Lemke and his wife Shanna, John M. Lemke, Lorraine J. Coate, Randall M. Coate, Brian M. Donohue, Christopher R. Donahue and Katherine A. Emery; three great-grandchildren, Robert M. Lemke, Abbey L. Lemke and Joshua P. Lemke; three sisters, Elnora Ruth Williams, of Rock Island, Ill., lla Mae Edie and her husband Kenneth, of Port Byron, Ill., and Shirley M. Redell and her husband Richard "Pete" Redell, of Oakville, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Elnora Craton; brother Kenneth E. Craton; and sister Metta E. Hansen.
Donna was devoted to her family and was a master storyteller. Some of her interesting tales are recorded in her writing "Grandma Remembers." As an Army wife and mother, she traveled through all 50 states and many foreign countries. When Bill retired from the Army in 1972, they continued their travels during his civilian employment. She is greatly missed.
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1505 College Ave., Alamogordo.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
