Doris Brizal Silva Obituary

On August 6, 2015, Doris went to see our Lord Jesus peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Malaquias and Lucy Brizal of Las Vegas; sister, Cannen Lou Brizal; beloved nephew, Paul Gonzales, and great-nieces Jacquelynn and Selena Gonzales, all of Las Vegas; father and mother-in-law Sam and Diamond Silva of Alamogordo, brother and sister-in-law George and Margo Sandoval of Alamogordo.

She is survived by her loving husband Eugene Silva, beloved son Joaquin Silva and companion Melanie Montoya of Alamogordo, step-son Vince Silva and wife Wendy of Fountain, Colorado, step-daughter Becky Silva of Alamogordo, grandchildren Faith Nevaeh, Katie, Dustin, Christian, and Stephen Gene. Brothers Jesus Brizal of Albuquerque, Gregory Brizal of Las Vegas, sisters Maxine and Ralph Gonzales of Las Vegas, Priscilla and Jeffrey Riggs of Rio Rancho, Kathryn Melendez of Albuquerque, Elfeda and Robert Rivas of Las Cruces and Eugenia and Wilfred Urioste of Pueblo, goddaughter Ashley Gonzales, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and dearest friend Carol Sanchez.

Born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Doris moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico to attend New Mexico State University, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. In 1980, she moved to Alamogordo where she was employed by New Mexico Department of Corrections for 23 years, finishing her career at New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department.

Her love for life was manifested in the love of the outdoors and sports that she shared with Gene. Together, they shared their campgrounds at the lake with both friends and family. Fishing, boating and camping allowed her to get out and celebrate the beauty that is God's earth. Her love of sports was passed on to her son Joaquin as she was his biggest cheerleader during youth sports as well as high school basketball and baseball. She also supported her granddaughter Faith's natural talents in dance, volleyball, and basketball. Those of us in this world lucky enough to be graced by knowing her have truly been blessed. Knowing Doris brings meaning to the poem that ends, "I reached out and touched the face of God".

The Rosary for Doris Silva will be recited at 9 a.m., Thursday August 13, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Linda Villabisencio. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday August 13, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Mike Lindsay, Celebrant.
Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.

The Silva family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral to direct the funeral services.
