Dorothy Urica Smith Obituary
Dorothy Urica Smith was born October 15, 1936 in La Ceiba, Honduras, CA, from the union of David and Mercy Lena Clark, both of Jamaica. She married Charlie Smith August 21, 1960. From this union are eight children. Daughters include: Gwendolyn Washington and husband, Curtis Washington Sr., Lillie Lewis and husband, Leonard Lewis, Pam Henderson and husband, Clint Henderson, Carmen Ross-Reliford and husband, Charles Reliford, Karen Smith, and D. Aileen Smith; two sons, Charles Smith Jr., and wife, Karen Allen Smith and David Allen Smith. She leaves her grandchildren to include, Jacquelyn Winston, Curtis D. Washington II, Jasmine Pritchett, Gifford Smith, Ashley Smith, Lee B. Smith, Quintin Smith, Jamaul Smith, Rashonda Williams, Quentes Smith, Danielle Lewis and Jeremiah Lewis and a host of nieces, nephews and 13 great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Hilda Clarke of Wabash, Ind.
Dorothy had been a member of this community since 1960. She retired after 38 years of working as a surgical technician at Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church for 53 years where she worked with the Missionary Union, played the piano, sang in the choir and worked with the food pantry. She also volunteered playing the piano at Casa Arena and Betty Dare nursing homes. She also was a "Big" for Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Mercy Lena Clark, sisters, Louise Brooks and Gwendolyn Clark, brother, David Clark and granddaughter Laura Ashley Lewis.
Funeral services for Dorothy Smith will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Corinth Baptist with Pastor James Forney officiating.
Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The viewing will be at 9 a.m. at the church before the service.
The Smith family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
