Douglas Allen McCombs

Obituary Condolences

Beloved family man
Douglas Allen McCombs, 73, went home to be with his Savior Monday, March 10, 2008. Doug was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Wallace, Ark., to Herrell and Bonnie Johnson McCombs. He was raised and attended school in Foreman, Ark., where he graduated in 1952. He met and courted the prettiest girl in Wilton, Ark., and on July 24, 1955, he married Martha Jones at the First Baptist Church of Ashdown, Ark.
Doug enlisted in the Army and served at Fort Sill, Okla., from 1955 to 1957. It was during this time that their first child; Debbie McCombs, was born on Oct. 11, 1956. After leaving the Army, Doug and Martha moved to Alamogordo in 1957 and on Oct. 9 their second child, Davis A. McCombs, was born.
Doug was employed by several companies, including a grocery store and several government contractors at Holloman Air Force Base. Their third child, Philip D McCombs, was born in Alamogordo June 12, 1962, and all of the children attended the Alamogordo Public Schools.
In 1975, Doug and Martha returned to Wilton, Ark., where he was employed by the Coca Cola Bottling Company. They returned to Alamogordo in 1982 and Doug went to work for Boeing Aerospace. While working for Boeing, Doug and Martha lived in El Paso, Texas, Paso Robles, Calif., Pueblo, Colo. and Leesburg, Va.
Doug retired in 1996 and returned to Alamogordo, where his parents were still living. After retiring from the aerospace industry, Doug worked for Hertz on a part-time basis and then became a guard employed by Mike Garcia Security Company on McGregor Range between Alamogordo and El Paso. He also spent a short time in Louisiana as a guard after the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
Doug was a member of the Berean Independent Baptist Church and loved to listen to Southern gospel quartet music. He loved playing canasta and dominoes, and loved to drive and listen to the police scanner.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha McCombs, of the family home; daughter Debbie Willis and husband Jerry, of Midland, Texas; son Davis "Pise" McCombs and wife Libby, of Tobaccoville, N.C., Phil McCombs and wife Amanda, of Waynesville, Mo.; grandchildren Michael Dean Hartmann and wife Kassandra, of Albuquerque, Damien Willis and companion Lisa Lisenbee, of Las Cruces, Dustin Willis, of Albuquerque, Anita McCombs, of Tobaccoville, N.C., P.J.
