Drusilla E. Telles Obituary

Drusilla (Dee) E. Martinez Telles entered into eternal rest this past Monday, October 12, 2015 in the comfort of her own home in La Luz, N.M., after a short illness.

Drusilla was born on August 22, 1931, in Black Lake, N.M., located in a remote southwest comer of Colfax County. She was the 13th child of a family of 16 children.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Louis Telles, son Mark Telles, her parents, Louis Martinez and Drucilla Romero Martinez. Her seven brothers: Severino, Isaac, Benjamin, Nino, Louis, Juan and Lonnie Martinez. Her six sisters: Priscilla, Dolores, Lupita, Isabel ,Rosella and Eva. Also, she had two step children, Annie Burchett and Robert Telles passing before her.

Surviving Drusilla are two sons, Louie Telles, Steve Telles (Ashley); her daughter, Margaret Baczik (Robert); eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; sister Teodora Cruz of Commerce City, Colo.; brother, Alonzo Martinez, Taos, N.M.; stepdaughter, Della Hernandez (Manny) and many nieces and nephews.

Growing up on the family ranch in Black Lake, life was challenging and difficult. Winters were long, cold and snowy. She walked to a one room country school braving the elements as there was no school bus service in those days. During the winter school days, her overshoes consisted of burlap. She shared many stories of her ventures to school and drying the burlap by the school's wood stove by day before returning home in the pm. Tending and feeding livestock, chopping wood and working the summer garden were among the many que haceres (chores) of her daily life. After WW II, the family relocated to Taos where she graduated from Taos High.

After traveling awhile as a young lady in nearby western states, she met her husband to be, Mr. Telles. It was then she relocated to Otero County here in Alamogordo and La Luz. Dee spent her working career at nearby HAFB and she retired from Civil Service. During her retirement, she was active with GCMH Auxiliary and Grace United Methodist Church. She made many numerous and lasting friendships with these groups. Also, the orchard in La Luz kept her quite active.

Mom had the servant's heart of Messiah. Often she would go out her way by always willing to do a favor not only for those who asked, but also with those in need. Rarely waiting to asked, she always took the initiative to help and be of assistance. She will be missed by all those who knew her.

Services are slated for Friday, October 16th in the chapel at the Alamogordo Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Burial will be follow at the La Luz Community Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Nathan, Leandro, Ben and Genevieve Telles and Robert and Elijah Baczik
