Eda Evelyn Baird Obituary
A memorial service for Eda Evelyn Baird, 93, of Alto, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, in the Getz Funeral Home chapel in Las Cruces.
Mrs. Baird passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at her home. She was born July 27, 1917, in Tularosa. She was in the Army during World War II, and was involved with the Girl Scouts of America and the Boy Scouts of America. She was also a member of Phi Betta Kappa, served as past president of the New Mexico Teachers Association, served as an adviser to Doña Ana County 4-H and Future Farmers of America of New Mexico, and served as secretary of Las Cruces Little League Baseball.
She married James A. Baird on Sept. 20, 1947, in Tularosa. He preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1989.
Survivors include a son, Jack Baird; a daughter, Dana Kay Woodward and her husband, Gary; six grandchildren, Vanessa Maine, Valorie Baird, Tammy Baird, Derrick Woodward, Ester Early and Gail Gomez; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Steve A. Baird, in August 1988.
The family has requested memorials be made to the Ruidoso Home Care Foundation, P.O. Box 2019, Ruidoso, NM 88355.
