Obituary Condolences

Edgar D. Etnire, was born Oct. 25, 1929, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of Edgar P. Etnire and Atha D. Wells Etnire (both deceased). He died at Good Samaritan Center, Betty Dare, Alamogordo, on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013. He was married to June E. Ferry of Staten Island, N.Y. He is survived by his sons from a previous marriage, Eric C. Etnire of Albuquerque and Mark V. Etnire of Redmond, Ore.; granddaughter Yevette C. Etnire of Woodland Hills, Calif.; great granddaughter Jasmine of Woodland Hills, Calif.; three grandsons, Michael, Nicholas and Christofer Etnire and daughter-in-law Rhonda Tadlock Etnire of Redmond, Ore., and stepdaughters Sandra Kinney and Laurie Dahl both of Orlando, Fla.
Mr. Etnire retired from the United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant after 26 years combined service in the United States Army and Air Force.
While in the Army, he served in the armored infantry and the transportation corps. In the Air Force, he served as a purchasing agent, contract administrator, procurement superintendent and contracting officer. He served 16 years overseas at bases in the Far East, Europe, Alaska and 10 years stateside.
At the time of his retirement, he was serving as the Executive Procurement Non-Commissioned Officer for the Air Force Eastern Test Range, Air Force Systems Command.
Included among his many awards were the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards); the Air Force Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal (two awards).
He held a commercial pilot's license with a sea-plane rating and had worked as a bush pilot in Alaska during the late 1950s. He enjoyed skiing, playing handball, sailing, flying, hiking and traveling around the world.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Betty Dare for the outstanding care he received.
He did not wish to have a service of any type.
He was interred in Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo.
The Etnire family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
