Edna Inez Bergman Walker Obituary
Edna Inez Bergman Walker, 95, passed away on February 4, 2018. She was born to Lydia Jackson Bergman and Carl Bergman on November 1, 1922 in Kingsburg, California. A life-long teacher, she had been living for the past ?ve years at the Brookdale Medi Park West retirement facility in Amarillo, Texas. Both her parents, her sister Mildred Carwell Hillblom, her brother Carl E. Bergman, her husband Howard Walker, one son Charles Walker and one grandson, Mark Walker preceded her in death. Raised in the San Joaquin Valley of California, Edna graduated from Montebello High in 1940 and from UCLA in 1944 with a degree in social studies (Political Science). She married Howard in 1944 in Bellingham, Washington. She had four children including twin boys Frank and Chuck, daughter Julie and son Dennis. She helped Howard on the farm near Floyd, New Mexico, then worked as a graduate assistant and the Dean's secretary at Eastern New Mexico University, in Portales, New Mexico, where she earned her master's degree in education in 1957. Edna taught two years at Ranchvale School near Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico then in 1960 moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico where she taught 6th grade at Buena Vista, Heights and Yucca elementary schools for 23 years. She absolutely loved teaching school. Following retirement, she and Howard traveled extensively to many states and other countries. Edna is survived by her son Frank Walker (Judy) of Bozeman, Montana, daughter Julie Miller (Joe) of Amarillo, Texas and son Dennis Walker (Mona) of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Kathy Walker (Patrick), Phillip Walker, Christina Wall (Chris), Melissa Walker (Sam), Brett Nunn (Bobbie), Ryan Nunn (Melissa), Katie Carda (AJ) and Courtney Walker as well as 10 great grandchildren: Ely Stone-Walker (Ashley), Cayen and Irie Wall, Callia and Dune Walker-Pulvers, Kimber Nunn, Dakota, Camrynn, and Cadence Nunn and Johnny Mac Carda.
