Eddie is survived by his ex-wife Leanna Alvarado, who was until his dying day the love of his life; their three beautiful daughters: Layla Melendez and her fiancé Johnny Ortiz and her children: Rosalinda Rodriguez, Annalyssa Garcia, and Jonathan DelRio of Roswell; Jasmine Brieno and her husband RD Brieno and their children: Rourke Brieno, Zayden Brieno, Ta'Corra Brieno, and Yanarah Brieno of Los Lunas; Sheena Messick and her husband Jesse Messick and their children: Marshal Dunn and Jasper Messick of Roswell; his mother Darlene G. Melendez of Eureka Calif., and his father Eduardo Rodriguez Melendez Sr. and his wife Ofilia Melendez of Pamona Calif.; his four sisters and five brothers: Lawana Barrell, Tim Barrell, Adele Neria, Adele Powell and her husband Gary; Eduardo Melendez Jr. II, Cynthia Melendez, Michael Melendez, and Daniel Melendez. Eddie is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Sadly, Eduardo Rodriguez Melendez Jr. lost his life on July 29, 2014, in Carrizozo, in a fatal car accident, causing Eddie to lose his life before his time.

Pallbearers are Tim Burrell, RD Brieño, Rourke Brieño, Zayden Brieño, Jesse Messick and Danny Graham.

Land of Endless Day
I close my eyes and look far away, to a land of endless day; where people are always happy, and in their heart there is an eternal song. The Lord is praised all day long and little flowers bloom everywhere. There is never a stormy cloud in the sky so blue. The Lord stands on the golden stairs, keeping watch over me and you. As the sun rises, we will let our spirits soar, until it reaches heaven's door. Let go of all things, which binds your heart down here. Just breathe, and know the Lord is near. The Lord is coming to claim his own; so this is what I see, when I close my eyes, and look far away; to a land of endless day.
