Edward Nelson "Ed" Hegge Jr., 62, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Alamogordo after a long illness.
He was born Jan. 13, 1950, in Boston to Edward Nelson and Bianca (Galassi) Hegge. His life was saved immediately following birth through the use of multiple blood transfusions, a new technique in the treatment of Rh incompatibility that made both medical and mainstream news at the time.
Ed enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967, where he served as a Bell UH-1 mechanic in Vietnam. Following his military service, he embarked on a career as a salesman in Massachusetts and North Carolina.
A resident of Alamogordo since 2000, Ed loved to attend services at Immaculate Conception Church, when his health allowed, and spend time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joyce; daughter Bobbie Longe (Patrick); sons Jeremy, Edward III (Sylvia), Christopher and Zachary Hegge; grandchildren Emily, Dennis, Cassidy, Naomi, Jetta, Edjren, Ada, Tyler and Aria; brother Andrew V. Hegge (Helen); and sisters Lucia C. Hegge and Lisa B. Rigge (Ron).
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
A reception is planned for 5 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, at Sunset Run Restaurant.
The Hegge family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
