Edward 'Ed' Roman Salas, 66
Edward "Ed" Roman Salas, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, in Dallas, Texas, where he was awaiting a liver transplant.
Ed was surrounded by his nephews and a niece at a Dallas hospital when he gently closed his eyes and left us. He is now resting and without pain, in heaven with his parents, Eduardo and Petra (Roman) Salas, and his brother and his wife, Leo and Delores Salas.
He was born April 4, 1943, in Alamogordo.
He is survived by sisters Barbara Estrada and Susan Swaim, of Alamogordo, and Veronica Salas, of Ruidoso; and brothers Arturo Salas and his wife, Mariela, of Odessa, Texas, Carlos Salas and his wife, Donna, of La Luz, and Rafael Salas, of Ruidoso. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles, and many friends who also knew him as "Lali."
Ed graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1962. He was a great football player and participated in other sports. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and from there enlisted in the Navy, where he served four years.
When he was honorably discharged, he stayed in Boston. He lived in Boston until February 2010 when his nephew and niece, Benjamin and Namoni Salas, took him to Dallas to be near family and hopefully receive a liver transplant. Ed was known in Boston as "The Cowboy" as he was always bragging about them.
