Eloy M. Chavez, 77, long time resident of Alamogordo passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, in the comfort of his home. Eloy was born in Ancho, N.M. April 10, 1931.
Eloy is survived by Angelina Chavez, his wife of 56 years, who remained by his side until he went to rejoice his eternal life.He is also survived by his three son's Ernest Chavez of Alamogordo, Michael Chavez of Las Cruses and Eddie Chavez of Las Cruses, his sisters; Virginia Farmer, Stella Vullo, grandchildren; Dominica Chavez, Angelisa Chavez, great grandchildren; Anthony Mata, Alliyah Mata, Elias Mata, Emmanuel Mata and many loving nieces, nephews and close friends. Eloy's life was also blessed with the special help of Patsy Serna, Ray Alarid, Martha Guevara, Aggie Alarid, and Carmen and Felipe Villascas.
He is preceded in death by his father; Juan Chavez, his mother; Eufelia Chavez, brothers; Augustine Chavez and Shan Chavez, sisters; Cora Gallegos, Florinda Romero, Adelina Serna and Eloisa Juarez.
Eloy served in the U.S. Army with service in the Korean War Conflict. He work 30 years in Civil Service at the Ammo and High Speed Test Track at Holloman Air Force Base.
He, for 15 years, worked at Alamo Bus Co. as a bus driver. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7686. Eloy dedicated his life to his immediate and extended
families, ensuring that love and unity was the basis of daily life.
Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Alamogordo Funeral Home with a Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at ICC Church at 701 Delaware and grave side services will be at the Catholic Cemetery following services. Friends and relatives are welcome to celebrate his life.
Pallbearers will be Nick Serna, Fred Serna, George Serna, Albert Serna, Juan Chavez and Johnny Chavez. Honorary Pallbearers are Livorio Framer, Bobby Farmer, Roger Chavez, Dick Chavez, Johnny Vullo, Felipe Villascas, Johnny Joe Chavez, Valentino "Tiny" Chavez, Raymond Alarid, Cashmere "Junior" Valenzuela, David "Shorty" Gallegos, Ernesto Garcia, Pete Garcia, Rubin Talon, Tom Bodie, David Caraway and Sheldon Compton.
The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at Alamogordo Funeral Home by Deacon Don Dickman.
Mass of the Ressurection will be Celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday at Alamogordo Funeral Home.
The Chavez family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Alamogordo Funeral Home.
