Elsie was raised and attended school in the Detroit area. Her life's journey led her to Alamogordo over 50 years ago. She was joined in marriage to Donald Taylor on May 23, 1963. Elsie held the most honorable and difficult position of mother and homemaker for many years and when time permitted, on occasion, volunteered time for various community services. Don and Elsie spent retirement years traveling about the country and eventually settling on the banks of the Tularosa River in Bent. Upon Don's passing in 2002, Elsie relocated to Alamogordo. In her later years Elsie enjoyed spending time at the Alamo Senior Center as well as sewing, quilting, bingo and loving on her little Dachsund, Dolly.
Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Donald, in 2002. Brothers Milton Marentette, Jack (Claire) Marentette, Robert (Florence) Marentette and Raymond (Helen) Marentette have also predeceased Elsie. An infant son, Mark, also predeceased Elsie.
Survivors include her sisters Doris (Richard) Congelliere, of Boise, Idaho, and Lucille (Floyd Halbert) Rhodes, of Minco, Okla., and a brother, Dale Marentette, of Travers City, Mich. Elsie is also survived by her children Tim (Yolanda) Counts, of La Luz; Colleen (Joe) Wilkey, of Alamogordo; Leigh Ann (Dave) Smith, of Alamogordo; Tina (Bobby) Beltran, of Alamogordo; and Teresa (Dale) Palkki, of Alamogordo, as well as stepchildren Beverly (Al) Corn, of Alamogordo, and Donald (Elizabeth) Taylor, of Tennessee. Elsie is further survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to share in the celebration of Elsie's life at a memorial service Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel.
The Taylor family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
