Emma B. Hofstetter

Obituary Condolences

Emma B. Hofstetter, 101, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, in Alamogordo. She was born on Jan. 1, 1908, in Pittsburgh to John M. Geszler and Susan E. (Martin). Emma met and later married Joseph Hofstetter in 1928 and raised one adopted daughter, Dorothy. Dorothy was born on June 11, 1929, and passed away on Jan. 2, 1986. After Dorothy's passing, members of the St. Jude Alter Rosary Society set up a fund for a new organ as a memorial to Dottie. The new organ was realized through efforts of all the St. Jude parishioners and many in the Alamogordo community. A plaque was presented to her mother, Emma, who placed it on the organ. It is still at St. Jude Mission today.
Emma and Joe moved to Alamogordo in 1968 to help Dorothy with her three children after learning on March 13, 1966, that her husband was MIA in Vietnam. The children were 8, 10 and 12 years old at the time.
Emma was always active in St. Jude Parish and served as Eucharistic minister and lector for many years. She was also an active member of Blue Army and Altar Rosary Society. She served on many committees, including the welcoming committee, kitchen buying committee and especially the baptismal garment and bibs from 1983 to 1994.
She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Vogle, of Pittsburgh, and Dorothy Frauenpries, of Fall Brook, Calif.; three grandchildren, Rick Pasekoff and wife, Claire, of Albuquerque, Larry Pasekoff and wife, Phyllis, of Wylie, Texas, and Karen Nauer and husband, Fred, of Minneapolis; and five great-grandchildren, Casey Ross, Ross Pasekoff, Robert Pasekoff, Kelly Pasekoff and Laura Pasekoff.
The rosary will be recited at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009, at St. Jude Mission. The funeral Mass will follow at 2 p.m. in the church.
Inurnment will follow in the St. Jude Mission Columbarium.
The Hofstetter family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
