Beloved of many                               
Ernest G. Chavez (Tecla), 69, passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2008, at his home in Tularosa after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on Nov. 20, 1939, in Tularosa to Bernabel and Otilia (Gonzalez) Chavez. Ernest loved his children and adored his grandchildren. He will be missed very much.
Ernest lived in Tularosa all his life. He loved the outdoors, sports, camping, taking care of his yard and reading. He especially enjoyed watching Notre Dame with his nephew Patrick Garcia. Ernest loved cooking for his family and friends. 
Survivors include wife of 40 years, Maria Elena (Helen) Chavez, of the family home; sons Ernest John Chavez and wife, Charlene, and Robert Chavez and wife, Antoinette; daughter Dolly Chavez, of the family home; four grandchildren, Ernest A., Pete and Brianna Chavez and their mother, Yvette Chavez, of Alamogordo, and Angelica Chavez, of Tularosa; mother, Otilia Chavez; four sisters, Cecilia Garcia, Loyola Romero and husband, Billy, Terri Bugher and husband, Bucky, and Helen V. Chavez; brother Alex Chavez and wife, Lina; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, a brother and a sister.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church with Father John Peterson, O.F.M., celebrant.
Military honors provided by Army National Guard.
The Chavez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
