Esther Romero Pena, 94
Esther Romero Pena, 94, of Alamogordo, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010.
Esther was born October 8, 1915, in Tinnie, N.M., to Antonio and Carolina Romero. In 1941, she married the love of her life Juan R. Pena. Together they had nine children.
Esther is survived by her sons Leroy Pena and his wife, Leta, of Tularosa, Wallace Pena of Portland, Maine; daughters Carol Kingsley of Morenci, Ariz., and Reynalda Stogden of Alamogordo; brother Manuel Romero of La Luz; and sisters Rachel Artiaga of Alamogordo and Presilena Lucero of La Luz. She is also survived by six grandsons, six granddaughters and five step-grandchildren. Esther has twenty seven great grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband and five sons Lois, Antonio, Johnny, Martin and Abbey; brothers Harry and Paul Romero; sisters Delfina Cervantez and Lanarda Lopez; sons-in-law William Kingsley Sr. and Charles Stogden Sr.; sister-in-law Lenore Chavez; and brother-in-law Frank R. Pena.
The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 12 at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel by her daughter-in-law Leta Pena.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., Celebrant. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Pallbearers will be Luis Pena, Raymond and Michael Borg, Salvador and Patrick Chavez, and Andrew Pena. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 5-6 p.m. before the Rosary.
The Pena family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to arrange services. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
