1919 - 2014 Obituary Condolences

Ethel Booth, 95, of Alamogordo, passed away on Dec. 18, 2014 in her home. She was born in Camden, N.J. on June 21, 1919. She has lived in Alamogordo since 1985.

She was the youngest of eleven children. Most of her early life was spent in Annapolis, Md., with her first husband, Joseph Irving Bird III. They moved to Holiday, Fla., where she worked at St. Petersburg Junior College. When her husband died she moved to New Mexico and married a second time to Gordon Oliver Booth. They had 22 years together before his death in 2006.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents Francis W. James and Annie Garrison James, her ten siblings, her first husband Joseph Irving Bird III, her second husband Gordon Oliver Booth and a granddaughter Debra Lynn Fowler.

Ethel is survived by her two daughters Marcia (William) Bird Werntz of Severna Park, Md. and Joanne Bird (Gordon) Booth of Alamogordo. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren including Pamela (Joy) Werntz-Howard of Watertown, Mass., Robert (Anna) Werntz of Annapolis, Md., Steven (Melissa) Werntz of Libertyville, Ill., Julie (Paul) Bresson of Severna Park, Md., Amy Ragan, Kristin (Sam) Butson, Melanie (Clint) Gilmore, James Booth and Jennifer (Joel) Hougon all of Alamogordo, as well as 23 great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was especially proud of having been to 49 of the 50 state,s as well as having traveled in Europe. She was a lifelong Episcopalian and is at home with her Lord and in a better place by far.

A celebration of her life service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Chuck Moon officiating.
The family would particularly like to thank Alamogordo Home Hospice for the care they provided Ethel and her family at the end of her life.

The Booth family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services. Cremation will take place at PCS.
