1949 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
Eugene V. Alford Jr., known as Buddy to his family and Gene to his friends, went home to the arms of his savior Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, after a seven-year courageous and hard-fought battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Shreveport, La., on July 22, 1949. He graduated from Bells High School in Bells, Texas, and attended Grayson Junior College in Denison, Texas. Gene was a proud veteran and served honorably in the United States Air Force for 22 years. He retired from the Air Force after serving as a master sergeant at bases all over the United States and in Okinawa. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Alamogordo.
His grandparents and his mother, Dorothy Alford, predeceased Gene. He is survived by his father, Eugene V. Alford Sr. and his wife, Helen; his sister and her husband Bruce and Patty Evans; his brother Mark Alford; his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Katie Alford and grandchildren Merik and Ainsley; his daughter and son-in-law Brandon and Crystal Holmes and grandson Dexter; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Gene knew no strangers and his zest for life and great sense of humor will be greatly missed by family and friends.
The celebration of life service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2012.
