Eureka "Dottie" Caldwell Obituary
The Lord called home Eureka "Dottie" Caldwell on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010. She was a longtime resident and school teacher in Alamogordo. She had been cared for by her son Craig Caldwell and wife, Faye, in Lithonia, Ga. Dottie was born on the family farm June 17, 1920, in Francis, Okla. She and her twin sister Betty Alter, who preceded her in death Jan. 17, were the youngest of 13 children born to August William and Paulina Lavina Doner.
After graduating high school in 1938 she attended East Central State College in Ada where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. When World War II came, she worked in the shipyards in San Francisco. On May 24,1943, she received an offer of employment with the FBI by telegram from J. Edgar Hoover, which she accepted. In 1945 she met and married Merle Caldwell and together they raised five children. Dottie taught school for over 30 years in Salina, Okla.; Pine Bluff, Ark.; and Alamogordo.
She was a woman of strong faith and prayer who loved her Heavenly Father, painting and singing. She is missed greatly by her family. Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Caldwell, in 1989, as well as by her parents and siblings. She is survived by Doner Caldwell and his wife, Vickie; Craig Caldwell and his wife, Faye; Kooper Caldwell; Kevin Caldwell; Shawn Morrison and her husband, Myron; 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
