Eva C. Valdespino

Obituary Condolences

Devoted family woman
Eva C. Valdespino was born May 29, 1915, in Central to Maximiano and Juana Carpio. She passed peacefully from this life on July 27, 2008, in her home with her daughter by her side.
Eva had a great love and respect for God and her family. She married the love of her life, Emilio, Aug. 6, 1945, in Deming soon after he returned from World War II. In 1948 they were blessed with a son, Emilio Jr. Her husband's career as a fireman brought them to Alamogordo Air Base in 1952. In 1961, their daughter Doris came into their home.
Over the years Eva took in and cared for many nieces and nephews and grandchildren, sending them back into the world with spiritual and physical nourishment, wisdom, respect for others and verguenza. She was always anxious to share her homemade tortillas, beans and chile with anyone stopping by. Eva made the sweetest tea this side of the Mississippi. She loved her sugar with a little coffee and indulged herself in candies and pastries.
Dementia affected Eva's mind after a stroke in 2001, but her body continued strong as ever. With great patience and compassion, her beloved Emilio cared for her until his death in 2006. Her cherished granddaughters Eva and Grace then assumed her care with the same patience, compassion and love until her death. These generous and unselfish women were truly her guardian angels.
Eva is survived by her daughter, Doris C. Valdespino; four grandchildren, Eva D. Seidelman (husband David), Grace K. Higgins, Carina Valdespino and Emilio J. Valdespino III; two great-grandchildren, Eva E. Seidelman and David A. Seidelman Jr.; one sister, Cruz Montano; one brother, Elias Carpio; a special niece and nephew, Nellie and Raymond Munoz; son-in-law Mark A. Higgins; caregivers Sharon Frye, Rachel Deitz and Lori. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emilio, son Emilio Jr., one sister and six brothers.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. by Deacon Don Dickman Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., celebrant.
Pallbearers include Raymond Munoz, Mark A. Higgins, Grace K. Higgins and Eva D. Beidelman.
Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday before the rosary.
The family would like to thank all the staff of Alamogordo Home Care and Hospice for their help and support.
The Valdespino family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
